    How reliably grafts can be individually counted at each stage
    • Days 0–1
      Best countability

      Every graft is a tiny, distinct puncture dot, sometimes with a pinpoint bead of dried blood. This is the sharpest window for an accurate count.

    • Days 2–3
      Excellent

      Sites are small red or pink dots, with a fine crust starting to form on some. Still individually distinct across nearly the whole recipient area.

    • Days 4–7
      Good

      A whitish or yellowish scab forms over each site. Most sites are still separable, though scabs can start touching in denser areas.

    • Days 8–10
      Reduced

      Scabs thicken and some adjacent sites merge into small clusters. A count from this stage is increasingly a lower-bound estimate.

    • Days 11–14
      Low

      Scabs flake and shed unevenly, obscuring or clumping many sites together. Only a rough, low-confidence estimate is possible from this point on.

    How does the AI count transplanted grafts from a photo?

    The AI scans your recipient area section by section — the same grid-by-grid approach a clinic technician uses — identifying each individual puncture site, scab, or incision mark as one graft. Because a photo is a single flat angle, it can't guarantee a perfect count the way an in-person exam can, so it always returns a range alongside its best estimate.

    Why does the day count matter so much?

    Each graft is only visible as a distinct mark for a limited window. In the first 1–3 days it's a sharp, individual dot; by days 4–7 a scab forms over each site but they're usually still separable; from around day 8 onward, scabs start merging and flaking unevenly, so any count becomes an increasingly rough, lower-bound estimate. For the most accurate result, upload a photo from as early in that window as possible.

    How accurate is this graft count?

    Treat it as a well-informed visual estimate, not a certified figure. Accuracy depends heavily on photo quality (sharp focus, even lighting, close enough to see individual sites), how much of the recipient area is actually in frame, and how many days have passed since surgery. If you provide the count your clinic reported, the tool will note whether your photo looks broadly consistent with it — but only your clinic's own procedure records are authoritative.
